I have had a New Year’s Resolution for the past two years that I have failed miserably at. I’m strong for a little while, but in a moment of weakness, I ruin it.
Every year.
It’s this: Don’t buy any more books until I read all the books I own.
We all know books are pack animals. And letting me into a bookstore is like letting a redneck into a gun shop. Or a sugar-rabid child into a candy store.
This comic = ME
So this is basically an accountability post… Which is what I need. Shame and accountability.
Without further ado, here are the books that are currently sitting on my bookshelf right now (whether physical or my Kindle), waiting for their turn to be read.
My Current Books
(in the haphazard order that they are
currently sitting on my bookshelf)
Belle Cora by Phillip Margulies
Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad by M.T. Anderson

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony, Graham Spence
Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers (Read July 20, 2017.)
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire (Even though I love the musical, I’m kind of dreading this one because it’s gigantic and doesn’t have great reviews…)
The Last Star by Rick Yancey (This is the third book in The 5th Wave series and I want to read them all in one go. So by naming this one, I’m basically saying I’m going to read 3 books…)
The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman
Once and For All by Sarah Dessen
Like a River Glorious by Rae Carson (I looove this series. Or at least I loved the first book. Again, planning on reading the series in one go.)
A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold (This is the autobiography of the mother of the Columbine shooter… I got it from my Book of the Month subscription and I’m not super excited about it…)
Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up by Marie Kondō (I’m going to need the motivation to clean my house when I read this one.)
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
The Shining by Stephen King (I’m waiting for Fall to start this one! But you don’t even know how excited I am about it.)
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (I’m excited for this one, but it’s daunting because it’s so thick.)
The Happiest Toddler on the Block by Harvey Karp, Paula Spencer (Because I need all the help I can get with my tiny human.)
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman (Read July 9, 2017. Read my review here.)
Lady of Sherwood by Molly Bilinski (Received in the May 2017 LitCube box.)

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (How have I not read this yet? It’s crazy, I know.) (Read July 8, 2017.)
End of Days (Penryn & the End of Days, #3) by Susan Ee (I accidentally bought the THIRD freaking book in a series without reading the first two… So I will have to get the other ones at the library before reading this one…)
What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe
Crazy Sexy Diet: Eat Your Veggies, Ignite Your Spark, and Live Like You Mean It! by Kris Carr (For when I decide to stop eating garbage…)

Look What I Have Done by Sarah Schmidt (EARC from publisher)

Remember When by Lindsay Detwiler (sent to by the author for review in July 2017.)
A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (received in the July 2017 Spearcraft box.)
Me, right now:
Because that’s a lot of books…

Haha that comic is fantastic. But I have no tips lol. I mean, I don’t buy a lot of books that I don’t read, but it does seem like almost every time I buy an ebook that I just have to have… I never end up reading it lol. And my general TBR is super long and somehow I keep just not even reading the books on the smaller “read this year” list I made…

E-books are so easy for me to forget about or avoid (even if I want to read them), because they’re not physically staring at me from the shelf and wondering why I’m not reading them. 😀

Um, I just WISH this was my TBR. Mine is beyond out of control and I had a list longer than this just of books I own from series I haven’t started yet. Yep! I could have gone on and on and on and…

It’s so hard when you’re requesting ARC’s and authors are emailing you with review requests. It’s seriously so overwhelming! haha, I’d be interested to see how many are on your list!

I don’t have a TBR anymore beyond books I own. I have stopped adding to good reads and now just pick from what I have on the shelves / kindle and if nothing appeals browse till something I remember hearing good things about catches my eye. Much less overwhelming x

These are only the books I own! Ahh! Not adding to Goodreads is a great idea. My Goodreads shelf is even more overwhelming than the books I own. 🙂
